Frequently Asked Questions

The part where I answer the reasonable questions.

If you are here, you probably want the version without fog. Good. This is the straight tour: what Inkstone is, what it is not, what leaves your device, what the premium keys actually do, and where the usual setup problems like to hide.

Start Here

The shape of the thing

Inkstone makes more sense once you stop asking whether it is a chatbot app and start asking what kind of room it is trying to build.

Inkstone is a local-first AI roleplay app. It stores your chats, characters, lorebooks, and settings on your device, then connects to the model provider you choose for generation.

The useful part is not that it pretends to be magic. The useful part is the RP-specific machinery: character cards, lorebooks, prompt layering, organization, and a workflow that does not feel like you are duct-taping a story together in public.

Models

Providers, keys, and first-contact pain

This is the part that confuses new users most often, mostly because people hear local-first and then quietly hallucinate a bundled model.

Privacy

What stays, what leaves, what the words really mean

Privacy claims get fuzzy very quickly on the modern internet. I would rather not do that to you.

Characters

Cards, lorebooks, and what imports can realistically do

A lot of Inkstone's value lives here. This is the part where the app stops being a pretty wrapper and starts doing real work.

Premium

What costs money, and what absolutely does not

This part is mercifully simple, which is rare enough to be worth appreciating.

Troubleshooting

The questions that usually save everyone time

A good FAQ should reduce support load without sounding like it was written by a haunted printer. Here is the practical part.
